Choir ~ Thyme To Sing

The CALMS’s Choir, Thyme to Sing, was established in September 2019 as part of the organisation’s 25 year anniversary celebrations. Under the direction of Mr Joe Deery since May 2022, the choir meets once a week for practice, and performs regularly at a variety of local care homes and events. Thyme to Sing has become an important feature of CALMS’s commitment to positively contribute to the mental wellbeing of the people of Derry and surrounding areas.

The overall objectives of the choir are to provide a safe and fun environment for people to meet, reduce isolation, form friendships, improve their mental and physical wellbeing, and to build their self-esteem through singing and social connection.

The choir has a strong desire to contribute to the local community. Therefore, there is a commitment to appear regularly in local care homes and at public events with a charitable connection, especially with mental wellbeing significance.

New members of all skill levels and backgrounds are always welcome, and no audition is necessary. For details please contact us at: choir@calmsstresscentre.org or find us on Instagram @ thyme_to_sing or on Facebook @ Thyme to Sing Calms Community Choir.

The choir is held every Monday, from 6pm to 7:30pm at Galliagh community centre.

Yoga

Yoga encourages mental and physical relaxation, which helps reduce stress and anxiety.

Yoga poses may help you release physical blockages like muscle knots, helping release emotions and tension.

They also promote the release of mood-boosting endorphins, which are the feel-good hormones that can positively affect how you handle stress.

Yoga is held every Wednesday evening from 6 to half 7. The class is held online via Zoom.

Benefits of Yoga

  • Improves your strength, balance and flexibility
  • Release tensions
  • Manages stress
  • Helps with anxiety
  • Improves your posture

Social Therapy

Social events are the times when a large group of people meet at a designated meeting point and jump on the bus.  As soon as everyone’s accounted for we hit the road.  We could be visiting local and rural heritage and cultural sites, going for lunch or dinner, or doing some site seeing.

Please check out our Facebook page for information regarding these events!
