Community Action for Locally Managing Stress

We are proud of the service CALMS provides. The aim of the organisation is the preservation and protection of health of the people in our city who suffer from stress generally, including individuals who are affected directly or indirectly by the conflict. This service aims to raise awareness of the causes of stress and educate participants in its management to promote resilient communities. CALMS catchment comprises some of the most deprived and marginalised communities in Northern Ireland.

I have worked with CALMS in a professional capacity for almost 18 years. Throughout this time, CALMS has grown from strength to strength in terms of the excellent service they provide to the local community. Their service is quite unique in that they offer high quality psychological therapies, fully qualified Counsellors and Psychotherapist (specialising in Trauma), in addition to Psychological Well-being Practitioners (PWP's) (who provide low intensity CBT for anxiety and depression) and CBT therapists, who offer more high intensity CBT for more complex mental health issues.
